Champaign County Sheriff’s Office Grieves Loss of Correctional Officer

Champaign, IL – Champaign County Sheriff’s Office announced the tragic death of Correctional Officer Jennie Ashley, who passed away in a traffic accident on June 3. Officer Ashley was off duty at the time.

According to the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office, Officer Ashley joined in September 2023, bringing extensive corrections experience. Despite her short tenure, she quickly built connections with colleagues and mentored newcomers. Officer Ashley was known for her empathy toward inmates.

The Sheriff’s Office expressed their condolences and announced that uniformed divisions will wear mourning bands on their badges until the funeral concludes.
