A 27-year-old woman from Riley, Michigan, has been charged with reckless driving after admitting to using her phone during a fatal crash on February 2.
According to the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the accident at 32 Mile Road and M-53 around 9:33 a.m. The woman allegedly ran a red light, colliding with a vehicle carrying the victim as a passenger. The victim was transported to a hospital but later succumbed to her injuries.
The suspect, who sustained injuries in the crash, confessed to being on her phone and using her GPS at the time. She now faces a charge of reckless driving causing death, a 15-year felony. Sheriff Anthony Wickersham emphasized the importance of avoiding phone use while driving to prevent such tragedies.
