Chicago Man’s Body Found in Lake Michigan near Chesterton

Chesterton, IN – A mysterious incident unfolded on Saturday when Indiana Conservation Officers were called to action following reports of a missing person in the waters of Lake Michigan near Whiting Lakefront Park.

Gerardo Castaneda-Soto, a 27-year-old from Chicago, tragically lost his life in the incident. Witnesses observed him struggling in the water before disappearing beneath the surface near the boat ramps.

The swift response of the Whiting Fire Department led to Castaneda-Soto’s recovery from the lake. He was immediately rushed to St. Catherine’s Hospital in East Chicago, where he was pronounced dead.

As the investigation continues, the Department of Natural Resources is awaiting autopsy results to determine the cause of this unfortunate incident. The Chesterton community remains in shock over this tragic turn of events.
