Naperville, IL – Police are investigating a report of shots fired in the downtown area Friday evening, prompting a response near a busy section of the city.

According to the Naperville Police Department, officers on patrol around 7:55 p.m. Friday, April 17, 2026, heard what appeared to be gunshots coming from an alley near the 0–100 block of East Chicago Avenue. Officers quickly responded to the area and observed several juveniles allegedly fleeing the scene.

Authorities conducted a search of the area and located evidence consistent with gunfire. Witnesses nearby reported hearing the shots but did not see the incident itself. Police confirmed that, at this time, no victims have been identified and no property damage has been reported.

Several individuals in the immediate area were detained as part of the investigation but were later released after questioning. Officials say no firearm has been recovered, and the investigation remains ongoing.

The incident occurred in downtown Naperville, a popular area within DuPage County and part of the greater Chicago metro region. Police have not announced any charges related to the case.
