BOURBONNAIS – A couple is dead Monday following a domestic disturbance call late Sunday night.

According to Bourbonnais police, Larry Menz Jr, 48, and his wife Ruth Menz, 46, were found dead in the couple’s home in the 700 block of Cherokee Drive after a welfare check by the Kankakee County Emergency Response Team Monday came up with no response.

Bourbonnais Police Chief Jim Phelps said Monday officers had visited the couple’s home late Sunday night just before 11:30pm.  Officers had made contact with Larry Menz Jr. after hearing a verbal dispute in a 911 call.

Menz Jr. later met Officers outside his home and reported there was no issue before going inside the garage and closing the door.  Officers proceeded to the front door and attempted look inside only to see Menz Jr. locking the door.  Officers continued to knock on the door before reporting the situation to KANCOMM, a release said.

Once officers arrived, they were able to gain entry to the home through a side garage door.

A second officer responding to the scene reported domestic disturbance calls at the residence dated back to 2008, with the most recent in August 2021.

That last person to speak to Menz Jr. was his father, who spoke to him around 3:30am in an effort to comply with authorities in an effort to deescalate the situation.

Menz Jr. had multiple domestic battery cases pending in Kankakee County Court, while his wife Ruth was granted an order of protection in 2019 following her husband’s arrest of domestic battery charges.

Autopsies on the couple are scheduled for Tuesday.
