FRANKLIN PARK, IL – A road rage incident on Interstate 294 led to the arrest of Leroyience Simmons, 34, from Waukegan, IL, on charges of attempted murder and aggravated discharge of a firearm, according to the Illinois State Police (ISP). The alleged expressway shooting occurred on May 4, 2024, near Wolf Road in Franklin Park, at around 4:27 p.m.
The ISP Division of Criminal Investigation Zone 1 East Violent Crimes Unit, assisted by the Waukegan Police Department, identified and located the suspect’s vehicle shortly after the incident. Simmons was taken into custody without injury to the victim.
The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office formally charged Simmons on May 6, 2024. He remains in custody pending a detention hearing. ISP continues to caution the public against engaging in aggressive driving behaviors, promoting their campaign, “Road Rage.
