Lake Villa, IL – As schools across Illinois close for summer, various police agencies urge residents to prioritize safety during the break.

The Lake Villa Police Department issued essential tips to ensure a safe and enjoyable summer for children and drivers. For drivers, the police highlighted the need to be extra cautious in neighborhoods and around parks. Drivers are advised to observe speed limits and drive slowly in residential areas. Additionally, avoiding distractions, such as using phones while driving, is crucial to ensure the safety of children playing outside.

For kids, the department emphasized sun protection, advising the use of SPF 30 or higher sunscreen and frequent reapplication. Hydration is critical, with a reminder to drink plenty of water, especially during outdoor activities. Water safety is also a priority, encouraging children to swim with a buddy and never be left unattended near water. Bike safety tips include wearing helmets and being aware of traffic rules.
