Watseka, IL – The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) has announced a significant upcoming closure that will impact Watseka drivers. The Union Pacific Railroad crossing located at U.S. 24/Illinois 1 (Walnut Street) is slated for closure starting Monday, April 22, due to essential repairs. The project is anticipated to last five days.

According to IDOT, a detour will be in place redirecting traffic to Illinois 1 and U.S. 52 to help manage the flow and minimize disruptions. Motorists traveling through the area are advised to expect delays and allocate additional time for their commutes. The department urges drivers to seek alternate routes when possible, to avoid the construction zone. Emphasis is being placed on safety within the work zones: adhering to posted speed limits, avoiding mobile device use, and being vigilant of workers and equipment are critical measures to prevent incidents.
