Chicago, IL – Residents south of Interstate 80 are bracing for severe thunderstorms set to unleash hail up to the size of ping pong balls late this afternoon into the evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Quad Cities, IA/IL, the most substantial storm coverage, accompanied by frequent lightning and potentially heavy downpours, is predicted south of I-80, with the primary risk being significant hail. There is also a concern for severe winds and isolated tornadoes within the yellow shaded areas on the map between 5-10 P.M.

Areas south of I-72 are urged to remain vigilant, and those in central parts of the state should prepare for possible flooding due to expected rainfall reaching 2 to 3 inches. Residents are advised to stay indoors if thunder is heard and to have multiple methods for receiving weather warnings.
