Madison, IN – An inmate passed away just hours after being booked into the Jefferson County Jail. The incident, occurring in the early hours of March 15, 2024, has prompted an investigation by the Indiana State Police-Versailles Post, following a request from the Jefferson County Sheriff.
The deceased, identified as Misty Williams, 44, of Hanover, Indiana, was incarcerated on the evening of March 14, facing preliminary charges that included Neglect of a Dependent, Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of a Hypodermic Syringe, and Maintaining a Common Nuisance.
Found unresponsive at approximately 6:00 am, efforts by jail staff to resuscitate Williams were unfortunately unsuccessful, with emergency medical services declaring her deceased at the scene.
An autopsy is planned in Hamilton County, Ohio, to determine the precise cause of death, though initial findings suggest no foul play. The investigation into Williams’ untimely death is being assisted by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office.
