KANKAKEE, Ill. – County Sheriff’s police launched an investigation over the weekend into a pair of stolen campers that were found on a property in Pembroke Township, believed to have been taken from Champaign county. However, what started as a search for stolen property ended in a drug arrest.

On Sunday morning around 11 a.m. deputies stopped a Chevy Suburban driven by Johnny J. Howe, a 45-year-old resident of Urbana, Illinois. Howe was towing a boat that was registered to someone else. During the stop, deputies found methamphetamine in Howe’s pocket, leading to his immediate arrest.

Along with drug possession, Howe was charged with driving on a revoked license, theft, and had two outstanding warrants from Champaign county. He was taken to Jerome Combs Detention Center and was issued a Cash Out bond of $50,000 on Monday.
