This year, Kankakee County, Illinois, finds itself grappling with an alarming statistic – a record-breaking surge in suicides.

According to Kankakee County Coroner’s Office, in 2022, Kankakee County witnessed a staggering 22 suicides, marking the highest number ever recorded within a single year. Tragically, 2023 is not offering much respite, as the county has already mourned the loss of 15 lives to suicide.

Suicide is a formidable adversary, sparing no one. It transcends race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, and age, casting its shadow across the entire community. During this month of awareness, it’s crucial to remember that help is always within reach.

Countless resources and compassionate individuals stand ready to offer support. Together, we can honor those we’ve lost and extend a lifeline to those still struggling.

Join us in unity this September, as we remember those we’ve lost to suicide and rally in support of the families forever impacted by this silent battle. Let’s put a stop to the rising tide of despair. #SuicidePrevention
