CROWN POINT, IN – A fiery incident unfolded this Friday afternoon on Anderson Street, leaving local residents in disbelief.
What began as an ordinary day turned into a scene after a Republic Services Garbage Truck, on its usual rounds, suddenly found itself engulfed in flames. The driver reportedly made a split-second decision to dump the entire load of garbage onto the street they were on, transforming it into a surreal sea of burning debris.
Quick response from The City of Crown Point’s Public Works Department, led by Terrance Ciciora and his dedicated crews, was nothing short of remarkable. They arrived swiftly with front-end loaders, battling the roaring blaze that had taken over the street.
Officials commended the Republic Services driver for his bravery, saying, “Kudos to the Republic Services driver who noticed the fire and drove his truck away from nearby houses and vehicles and found a more preferable location to unload the burning garbage.”
Miraculously, no nearby properties faced any danger, and the firefighters successfully extinguished the flames. However, the aftermath left Anderson Street closed to traffic until 3 pm for an extensive cleanup operation.
The cause of the fire remains unknown at this time.
