Kankakee County Tragedy: Grant Park Man, Crete Woman Killed in Late Monday Head-On Crash

Kankakee County, Illinois – In the late hours of Monday, a catastrophic traffic accident occurred on Illinois Route 1 in Grant Park, Kankakee County, taking the lives of two local residents. Ricky A. Castillo, 31, of Grant Park, and Penelope A. Manthey, 54, of Crete, were the drivers involved in the head-on crash that led to both of their deaths.

According to the Kankakee County Coroner’s Office, emergency services were dispatched to the scene near 11000 North Road after the two vehicles, a 2009 Ford Fusion and a 2018 Ford Edge, collided. The Grant Park Police Department and other first responders found extensive damage to both cars, and despite their efforts, both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene.

Autopsies conducted the following day concluded the preliminary investigations, though the incident remains under the joint scrutiny of the Coroner’s Office and the Illinois State Police. An investigation into the crash continues.
