Kankakee, IL – Residents in Kankakee should prepare for the boil order to remain in effect until at least Wednesday, according to an announcement from Aqua Illinois.

Initiated on Sunday, the advisory continues as the water plant undergoes essential bacterial testing. This testing adheres to safety standards that include an 18-hour incubation period for each test batch, which extends the duration of the precautionary boil order.

The prolonged advisory has spurred a significant increase in bottled water purchases, leading to shortages in local stores. The high demand for bottled water reflects the community’s need for safe drinking water until the advisory is lifted. Residents of Kankakee County are encouraged to continue boiling water for consumption and other uses as specified by the advisory until further notice.
