Kankakee, IL – In a recent move by the Kankakee City Council, the city’s dormant hydroelectric plant is set to receive a vital upgrade.
The council approved a contract for roof repairs on the plant, marking a significant step in a comprehensive project aimed at bringing the facility back into operation. The initiative to refurbish the plant includes various upgrades, with the roofing work highlighted as a crucial early phase due to the structure’s deteriorating condition, having gone unreplaced for an estimated 20-25 years.
The contract, secured for just under $68,000 with Langlois Roofing, leverages funds from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), showcasing an efficient allocation of resources towards enhancing local infrastructure.
