Kankakee, IL – Kankakee County Sheriff, Mike Downey, announced a significant development in transportation for individuals released under the Safe T Act.

During Wednesday’s Kankakee County Board’s Justice Committee meeting, it was revealed that River Valley Metro has expanded its bus service to include the county jail, Jerome Combs Detention Center. This expansion, a goal of the Sheriff’s Department for the last two decades, aims to provide a safer and more convenient mode of transportation for those released from the detention center.

According to Sheriff Downey, the new service, operating hourly at the top of the hour, will prevent individuals from enduring lengthy walks to the nearest bus stop, mitigating risks associated with extreme weather conditions.
