KANKAKEE, IL – A Kankakee man was arrested on Saturday afternoon on weapons charges following a disturbance report in the 200 block of Crest Lane Drive. The arrest took place after the car he was traveling in was pulled over in the 1900 block of Court Street. Police had received a tip about the possibility of a firearm inside the vehicle.

During the stop, officers asked the six individuals in the car to exit, and a search ensued. To their surprise, the police discovered a 9mm handgun cunningly hidden inside a Fanny Pack, concealed within a laundry basket, and buried under a pile of clothes in the back of the vehicle.

The authorities identified the gun’s owner as 22-year-old Kaivone Lewis, a resident of Kankakee. Lewis, who is a convicted felon, now faces charges for unlawful use of a firearm. On Monday afternoon, he was granted a $25,000 bond.
