A two-vehicle crash on County Road 400 North resulted in the death of a 92-year-old passenger.
According to the La Porte County Sheriff’s Department, the accident occurred yesterday at 1:58 PM. Deputies, including Deputy Xavier Biggerstaff, reported that a black 2016 Audi driven by Cynthia L. Schoof, 74, crossed into the westbound lane and collided with a blue 2021 Subaru driven by Susan A. Hall, 68.
Carol Lukes, 92, a passenger in the Subaru, sustained upper body injuries and was transported to a regional hospital where she later died. Another passenger, Jackie Frankowski, 75, in the Audi, also suffered injuries but survived. Schoof and Hall were not injured.
Assisting agencies included La Porte County EMS, Coolspring Township Volunteer Fire Department, and St. Joseph County Coroner’s Office.
