Lake Forest, IL – A Lake Forest man faces serious charges after an incident at the Interstate 94 eastbound Lake Forest Oasis. Robert J. Cattell, 52, has been charged with vehicular hijacking, possession of a stolen motor vehicle, and failure to report a personal injury crash.

The event, which occurred around 3:50 a.m. Thursday, began with Cattell allegedly stealing cigarettes at the Oasis 7-11 gas station. The situation quickly escalated when he allegedly hijacked a vehicle from a person who was pumping gas. The victim was reportedly struck by the car door as Cattell fled, causing non-life-threatening injuries. A state trooper’s vehicle was also damaged during the attempted apprehension.

Following a short pursuit, Cattell crashed in Chicago and was arrested for DUI drugs by the Chicago Police Department. Both Cattell and the carjacking victim were hospitalized with minor injuries. The Lake County State’s Attorney’s office has approved the charges, and Cattell is now held at the Lake County Jail, pending a detention hearing.
