KANKAKEE, Ill. – Friends and supporters have established two GoFundMe accounts to help the family of a father and son who were both killed in a head-on car crash in Braidwood.
Andy Adams, 47, and his son Andrew, 30, both members of the Joliet-based Ironworkers Local 444, died in a fiery wreck on March 7 along Route 113 in Custer Park. The driver of the blue 2020 Toyota Camry was also hospitalized, and his injuries were not life-threatening.
“Jennifer lost both her husband and son Tuesday, March 7th, unexpectedly in a car accident,” the GoFundMe organized by Jordan Adams noted.
One of the accounts, called “Support for Rachel and Baby Adams,” had already surpassed its goal of raising $10,000 within two days, with 265 donations totaling $14,215. Rachel, who is 28 weeks pregnant, lost her husband Andrew in the crash. The funds raised will help her and her unborn child.
The second GoFundMe account, “Rallying Around Jenn,” is intended to help Jennifer, the widow of Andy Adams, who lost both her husband and son in the crash. The account has received 115 donations totaling $8,810, and aims to raise $10,000 to provide support for Jennifer. Andy Adams died three months before his 48th birthday. He and Jennifer Gadbois were married on August 8, 1998, in Kankakee.
Clancy-Gernon Funeral Homes, which has locations in Kankakee, St. Anne, Manteno and Bourbonnais, is handling both funeral arrangements.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation by the Illinois State Police.
