CHICAGO, IL – The family of Cristian Uvidia, a 6-month-old baby who tragically lost his life in a car crash involving a stolen vehicle on Chicago’s West Side, is seeking upgraded charges for the two teenagers responsible.

The incident occurred on Sunday, April 16, in the West Garfield Park neighborhood, at the intersection of West Washington Boulevard and North Kostner Avenue. A stolen Hyundai traveling westbound on Washington Boulevard crashed into a pickup truck driven by Cristian’s mother, along with his two sisters, who were also in the vehicle.

Cristian suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. His mother and sisters were taken to Stroger Hospital for treatment.

Two teenage boys, aged 14 and 17, who were in the stolen vehicle, have been charged with just one misdemeanor count of criminal trespassing each. This has sparked outrage among community activists, who are demanding stiffer charges, such as first-degree murder or reckless homicide, be filed.

The incident has also brought attention to the issue of stolen vehicles and the devastating consequences of such reckless actions. Chicago has seen a significant increase in carjackings and stolen vehicles in recent years, and community members are calling for stronger measures to address this problem.

As the investigation into the crash continues, Cristian’s family remains hopeful that justice will be served for their beloved baby boy. The GoFundMe campaign organized by Annelisse Rivera has received an outpouring of support, with donations surpassing the original goal of $25,000, reaching over $42,000.

“We are moved to tears by your generosity and love,” said Annelisse Rivera in an update on the GoFundMe page. We have gotten so many kind messages whether it be by email or via GoFundMe but it’s nice to know that Cristiansito’s story had such an impact on you all that you would be willing to help us.
If I could hug you all individually I would.”

The loss of Cristian Uvidia has deeply impacted the West Garfield Park community and serves as a tragic reminder of the devastating consequences of reckless behavior. The family’s plea for upgraded charges against the teenagers responsible echoes the sentiment of many who are seeking justice for Cristian and his grieving family.
