PINE TOWNSHIP, IN – The Porter County Sheriff’s Office announced a devastating fatal crash on an Indiana roadway involving an antique firetruck on its way back from a parade.
According to reports, the collision Saturday resulted in the death of one person and several trapped inside after it was hit by a SUV. At the time of the crash, the antique firetruck traveling westbound on U.S. 20 in Porter County collided with a Toyota Highlander attempting a left turn from 520 onto the same roadway.
The impact of the crash ignited a fire in the Highlander, prompting the courageous efforts of bystanders who rescued several victims trapped inside the antique firetruck, owned by Orak Shrine of Michigan City. Unfortunately, one passenger lost their life at the scene, while four others were rushed to the hospital for treatment.
The investigation led by the Porter County Crash Reconstruction team forced the closure of the surrounding area for several hours, causing significant disruption.
Authorities have not released the identities of the victims. An investigation into the crash is ongoing. No charges have been announced associated with the wreck.
