Champaign County, IL – An investigation is underway after an Iowa shooting suspect died in a shootout at a Champaign County detached garage.

According to State Police, on Monday, Randy A. Jackson, 39, engaged in a standoff with Illinois State Police, who responded to a pursuit from Vermilion County after catching sight of a vehicle believed to have been involved in a Clinton, Iowa shooting. Despite attempts to de-escalate the situation, the suspect refused to comply, leading to an exchange of gunfire.

The suspect was struck and later pronounced dead early Tuesday morning at a nearby hospital.   An autopsy is scheduled for Friday.
