JOLIET – Police arrested a man with a handgun last night after observing multiple people hanging out behind a gas station.

According to Joliet Police, it happened just after 8 p.m. last night when officers noticed the men and approached one of the suspects on foot behind a gas station in the 700 block of East Cass Street.

When the officers approached the men, they noticed one was carrying a handgun.  The suspect fled on foot, ignoring calls to stop and drop his gun.  The foot chase made it to the 600 block of Jerome Street where the man turned and confronted the officer, still holding the gun.

The officer then shot at the suspect, missing him, but causing the suspect to drop his weapon.  The suspect was then taken into custody.
