Grundy County Authorities Uncover Body of Missing Manhattan Man in Water

COAL CITY, IL – A grim discovery was made earlier this morning when Grundy County deputies responded to a call of a body in the water.

According to Grundy County Sheriff’s Deputies, at approximately 6:30 am, authorities were alerted about a body found floating in the water. Members of the Coal City Fire Protection District recovered the unidentified person a short time later from the water.

The Grundy County Coroner’s Office promptly arrived at the scene and took possession of the deceased. The body was identified Saturday afternoon as missing Manhattan man Anthony Fehrenbacher.

Fehrenbacher, 47, had been reported missing on June 1st. Fehrenbacher, known to his friends as Tony, was last seen on May 26th at around 7 p.m. when he left his home for a walk in the neighborhood.

Authorities recently conducted aerial drone searches of the area including the Wauponsee Trail and the northern part of Midewin last weekend, but yielded no leads.

The Grundy County Sheriff’s Office reports the death Fehrenbacher is being investigated as possible foul play, but did not provide further details in the case.
