WOODLAND, IL – A Woodland man tragically lost his life on Sunday night in a horrific rollover fire crash that took place in southern Iroquois County.

The 54-year-old driver, whose identity has not been released pending notification of next of kin, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The devastating incident occurred around 10 p.m. on Illinois Route 49, just north of the county border. The vehicle, traveling southbound, veered off the road and collided with a culvert before rolling over multiple times and bursting into flames.

Emergency personnel swiftly responded to the scene, but their efforts were unable to save the driver’s life.

Illinois State Police are currently investigating the crash, and Route 49 was closed for nearly three hours as authorities worked to clear the area and gather evidence.
