IMPORTANT NOTICE: Business Licenses, Fees and Registration in the City of Kankakee

Kankakee, IL – From the Office of the City Clerk, all present and future businesses operating in the City of Kankakee must now register annually with the City Clerk’s office located at 304 South Indiana Avenue in Kankakee, Illinois. Ordinance 2020-21 amending Chapter 21, Article II, of the Municipal Code of the City of Kankakee was passed by City Council on February 3, 2020. Businesses who are exempt from the renewal fee are still required to register with the City Clerk’s office.

All businesses, including home-based, must complete an application and submit corresponding documents as outlined on the application to register and renew their licenses in order to be in complete compliance. The effective date for all business licenses is May 1st through April 30th. The deadline to turn in applications is April 30, 2020. There is now a flat rate late fee of $25.

If you would like to obtain a business license application or have questions, please contact the City Clerk’s office at 815-933-0480 during regular business hours between 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday or email businesslicense@citykankakeeil.gov for additional information. You may also download a copy of the application from the City of Kankakee’s website at www.citykankakee-il.gov.
