HAMMOND, Ind. – The Hammond Police Department has successfully apprehended two individuals suspected of being involved in a burglary that occurred on March 13th at the Boulevard Smoke Shop in the 1500 block of Indianapolis Blvd. The suspects were identified as David Bradford from Chicago and Darryl Magee from Bolingbrook, IL.

The Hammond Police Department utilized BlueNET, the city’s license plate reader system, along with good police detective work to locate and apprehend the suspects. Upon reviewing surveillance footage and conducting interviews with potential witnesses, detectives noticed a vehicle with a suspicious license plate number captured on the surveillance tapes. BlueNET was then utilized to track the vehicle, which had been seen at other burglaries in Northwest Indiana.

Chief of Police William Short commended the good work of the detectives involved, stating that the combination of technology and good police work, along with community assistance, allowed for the successful identification and arrest of the suspects.

Residents of Hammond are encouraged to report any suspicious activity to the Hammond Police Department immediately. Anyone with further information about this crime is asked to call Det. Sgt. Sue Pruzin at (219) 852-6391.

The use of technology like BlueNET have been incorporated by local law enforcement agencies in recent years and proven to be a valuable tool in solving crimes and apprehending suspects.
