Lake County, IL – In the early hours of Monday, Lake County Sheriff’s deputies apprehended 40-year-old Gregory A. Williams, Jr. while he allegedly committed vehicle burglaries in unincorporated Libertyville.
The incident unfolded around 2:05 a.m. after a property owner alerted authorities upon spotting suspicious activity via surveillance cameras on his property along the 19100 block of Route 137.Responding to real-time updates provided by the 911 telecommunicators, deputies arrived quickly and detained Williams, a resident of Lakemoor, discovering burglary tools and a BB gun designed to look like a real firearm near the scene. The other suspect fled before deputies arrived but has been identified, and an arrest warrant is in progress.
The Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office has charged Williams with two counts of burglary and one count of possessing burglary tools. He is currently held at the Lake County Jail, with a detention hearing scheduled for April 18, 2024. Williams and all defendants maintain their presumption of innocence until proven guilty in a court of law.
