PONTIAC, IL – A man led law enforcement on a heart-pounding high-speed chase and subsequent foot pursuit that lasted for hours in Livingston County on Sunday.

Fairbury Police were initially alerted when patrol officers attempted to pull over a vehicle breaching the city limits. The driver, later identified as Cameron R. Acosta from Creve Couer, Illinois, allegedly defied commands to halt and instead accelerated westbound on Oak St., pushing the speedometer past 80 miles per hour in the vicinity of a nearby gas station.

Fully aware of the potential danger to the public, Fairbury Police opted to discontinue the pursuit. However, the Livingston County Sheriff’s Department promptly took up the challenge as the suspect’s vehicle raced towards Pontiac on Weston Blacktop. The thrilling chase reached its conclusion when Pontiac Police strategically deployed spike strips, effectively disabling Acosta’s vehicle.

Acosta would then allegedly abandoned his immobilized car and embarked on an intense four-hour foot chase, prompting an extensive manhunt with the assistance of State Police K9 units.

Acosta was later apprehended by Pontiac Police on Reynolds St., putting an end to the adrenaline-fueled ordeal.

Acosta now faces a barrage of charges, including aggravated fleeing and eluding, possession of methamphetamine, driving with a suspended license, and resisting arrest. He has been transported to the Livingston County Jail to await legal proceedings.
