Missing 7-Year-Old Found Safe Thanks to Unprecedented Community Effort

KENTLAND, IN – In a heartwarming turn of events, the missing 7-year-old, Anne Hofrichter, has been found safe and healthy, thanks to an incredible display of community support and collaboration. Newton County Sheriff’s office and the Kentland Police Department launched an extensive search operation after Anne went missing around 9 PM on August 2nd in the area of Lincoln Street Apartments. She was reunited with family as of 9:30 a.m.

“The Newton County Sheriff’s office and the Kentland Police Department began an investigation.  This case did not meet the criteria for an amber alert.  Therefore, we went to social media and the Sheriffapp to get the word out.  Our postings were being shared/viewed about 500 times per minute with nearly 17,000 people reached in little time.  We thank everyone that shared the information and those that offered kind and caring words.” Newton County Sheriff’s Police said Thursday. “The young girl was found to have spent the night with a friend.  She was safe and healthy and THAT is what matters.”

The response from the community was truly remarkable, with numerous resources mobilized in record time. Newton County Sheriff’s Department, Kentland Fire Department, Newton County Emergency Medical Services, Jasper County Sheriff’s Department, Newton County Emergency Management Agency, Benton County Emergency Management Agency, Indiana Department of Natural Resources, Lake County Sheriff’s Department, Emergency Aerial Geographic Logistics Entity 1, Indiana State Police, and Newton County Corrections all played a vital role in the search effort.

In addition to the physical response, the coordination among NC Dispatchers was commendable, ensuring seamless communication between agencies throughout the operation.

The news of Anne being found safe spread like wildfire, and the community is grateful to everyone who shared the information and showed genuine concern for the well-being of a child in need.

Newton County Sheriff’s Police expressed their heartfelt gratitude to all who assisted with the search and rescue efforts, emphasizing the significance of working together in such situations. The quick and coordinated response showcased the power of unity and cooperation during times of crisis.
