Ax wielding Joliet home invader gets ten years in prison

JOLIET – A man who invaded a local home in early 2021 while carrying an ax has been sentenced to a decade in prison.

The ruling came Wednesday when Allen Gillespie, 38 of Washington was found guilty of invading the home in February last year.  It was on February 5, 2021, Gillespie used an ax to break down a residents back door in an attempt to enter a home.  The victim called 911 and was able to escape.

“Everyone deserves to feel safe in their own home.” Will County State’s Attorney Jim Glasgow  said in a statement following the ruling. “She can never be compensated for the sheer terror that Gillaspie put her through. To her credit, her own resourcefulness prevented this from being more tragic.”
