Minivan Chase Ends in Field near High School in Joliet

JOLIET – A motorist is recovering after two men allegedly tried to run the victim off the road Sunday morning.

According to Joliet Police, it happened just before 3 a.m. Sunday when officers found a motorist in destress near Cass and Scott streets.  The driver of the vehicle told police a minivan had allegedly been following them and tried to run the vehicle off the road.  The victim of the incident also reported the men tried throwing things at the vehicle in their attempt.

Officers found a Minivan matching the description nearby.  When officers attempted to stop the vehicle it took off and a chase pursued.  The Minivan came to rest in a field near Joliet Central High School and the men inside took off on foot before being taken into custody.

Jose Mascote, 27, was identified as the driver of the vehicle and was charged Aggravated Assault, Reckless Driving, Driving While License Suspended, and Resisting/Obstructing a Peace Officer.  

Mascote’s passenger, Rene Barbosa, 22, was released on an I-Bond for Obstructing a  Peace Officer.
