Motorcyclist dies in crash near Watseka

WATSEKA – A crash late Tuesday claimed the life of a motorcyclist after he reportedly swerved into the oncoming path of a semi.

According to Illinois State Police, it happened at U.S. Route 24 at 1889 East Road around 6:46 p.m.  That’s when for an unknown reason, a 1980 Black Suzuki motorcycle driven by a 22-year-old Watseka man swerved into the eastbound lane and hit by a 2021 Gray Peterbilt semi-truck going in the opposite direction.  The collision ejected the man from his motorcycle.  

He was pronounced dead on the scene.

The driver of the semi was identified as a 52 year old Indiana man, was treated at a nearby hospital and is expect to be ok.

The identity of the victim has not yet been released to the public and is pending family notification.

The roadways was closed for five hours while an investigation was underway.  An investigation is ongoing.
