Oak Lawn Crash Claims Life of Off-Duty Chicago Police Officer

CHICAGO, IL — An off-duty Chicago police officer, Edwin Espinoza, 35, tragically lost his life in a vehicle crash in Oak Lawn on Sunday morning. 

The incident occurred around 8 a.m. near 95th Street and Harlem Avenue. Espinoza, who had served as a probationary officer for one year, was driving when his vehicle collided with a tree. Despite being rushed to a hospital, he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

In response to this loss, Edwin Espinoza’s relatives, Alexis Espinoza and Daniel Espinoza, have initiated a GoFundMe campaign to support funeral expenses. As of Monday morning, the campaign has garnered over $25,000 in donations. 

The Espinoza family shared their heartache over the loss of Edwin, describing him as a beloved son, brother, uncle, godfather, and friend. Further details regarding funeral arrangements are expected to be announced soon.
