Rabid Bat Discovery in Homewood Sparks Health Alert

Homewood, IL – A bat found in Homewood has tested positive for rabies, prompting a public health alert.

According to the Cook County Department of Animal Control, the bat was discovered on May 14 in the 1900 block of Evergreen Road. The Illinois State Public Health Laboratory confirmed the rabies diagnosis. Residents who may have been exposed to the bat are advised to seek medical attention immediately.
