BOURBONNAIS, IL – The 2023 Bourbonnais Friendship Festival is set to kick off this week, bringing together the community in a celebration of friendship and resilience. In a heartfelt announcement on the festival’s Facebook page, Sergeant Tyler Bailey and his wife Sydney Bailey were named as this year’s Grand Marshals.

Their selection holds special significance as Tyler Bailey’s journey symbolizes bravery and the unbreakable spirit of Bourbonnais.

Tyler Bailey, an officer with the Bradley Police Department, was critically wounded in the line of duty in December 2021, tragically losing his partner, Sergeant Marlene Rittmanic. Tyler fought for his life, undergoing multiple life-saving surgeries and months of intensive care. Supported by his wife Sydney, he persevered through inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation, finally returning home to the Bradley Area in November 2022.

Tyler’s dedication was recognized with a promotion to the rank of Sergeant on December 10, 2022, before retiring from the police department on May 20, 2023.

The festival commences on Wednesday, June 21st, at 5:00 pm with the opening of the carnival. Festivities include the posting of the colors by the Veterans Group and a special performance of the National Anthem by Ellie Yeager during the opening ceremonies at 6:00 pm. Attendees can also enjoy live music by Tim Boshaw and witness the crowning of the Senior Miss America Representative from Illinois, Ms. Dorothy Roberson.

Throughout the festival, visitors can revel in captivating performances by talented artists such as Jillian Aldrige, winner of the 2022 Bourbonnais Has Talent competition, and The Vexons, victorious in the Battle of the Bands. The event culminates on Friday with a spectacular fireworks display sponsored by Illiana Financial, accompanied by live music from the Southside Social Club Band.

Saturday, June 24th, is dedicated to honoring veterans with activities including a 5K Run/Walk, a Cane Pole Fishing Derby, and a Veterans Luncheon sponsored by CommonWealth Credit Union and Dental Group of Bourbonnais. Attendees can also enjoy a Battle of the Bands competition and captivating performances by Limelight Theatre Works.

The Bourbonnais Friendship Festival is a testament to the community’s resilience and unwavering support for one another. It serves as a reminder of the strength found within the town, building forever friendships that withstand the test of time.
