CHICAGO — The mystery of the skies continues to intrigue as Illinois and Ohio secure spots in the top 10 states for UFO sightings.

New data from the National UFO Reporting Center reveals that over a hundred UFO reports are filed monthly, with the center diligently publishing these in their online Data Bank.

Ranking high among states, California leads with 16,084 sightings, followed closely by states such as Florida and Washington. Illinois and Ohio, ranking 6th and 7th in state population, report 4,247 and 4,412 sightings respectively.

Interested in the shape of these unidentified aerial phenomena? Almost half (47%) describe them as orbs, with sonede and ambient lights following at 19% and 16%. While oval objects account for 10%, other shapes such as cylinders, disks, triangles, and the intriguingly named “Tic Tac” each capture around 1-3% of reports.

Curious minds can delve into more details on the center’s website, sorting sightings by location, description, and date. As the numbers rise, one thing’s for certain: sky gazers in Illinois and Ohio might just catch a glimpse of the unexplained.
