A truck destroyed the Internet for a lot of people Wednesday after reportedly traveling in an easement that was closed to vehicles.

Comcast released a statement following the outage on June 3rd.

“A truck travelling in an easement closed to vehicles struck our network and did significant damage, which caused the outage in Springfield and other areas.” Comcast said. “We have been onsite working to repair the damage and have been able to restore service in most of the affected areas. We are working to restore service in other affected areas as quickly as possible.”

The outage affected mostly the eastern half of the United States and was reported just before 2 pm Central Time.  A map provided by DownDetector shows the areas of impact.

Service was restored sometime around 3pm Wednesday.
