Wilmington, Illinois  – In a remarkable display of athletic prowess coinciding with a solar eclipse, Maddie Simms of Gardner-South Wilmington High School delivered a perfect game against Grace Christian Monday.

Simms achieved the rare feat under clear skies, with no hits, runs, or walks allowed in all 7 innings, alongside 18 strikeouts. Adding to her stellar performance, Simms also contributed offensively with an RBI, bolstering her team to a 10-0 victory. Teammate Kayla Scheuber provided strong support, going 4 for 5, including a 3-run homer.

The triumph was even more poignant as it unfolded on an extraordinary sunny day, framed by the eclipse, creating a perfect backdrop for Simms’s achievement. The Panthers, uplifted by their flawless victory, set their sights on their next contest against Momence later today.
