Wilmington, IL – A vital roadway in Wilmington is temporarily out of commission.

According to a Facebook post by the City of Wilmington Police Department, New River Road is entirely closed to east and westbound traffic, including trucks, due to construction at the railroad tracks. The completion of the work is anticipated by Wednesday or Thursday of the current week.

The police department has warned that detours and road closure signs placed by IDOT are not to be tampered with, and violators will face penalties. Commuters are advised to seek alternative routes and plan for potential delays.
