Winnipeg, MB – A weeks-long investigation into a string of break-ins across Winnipeg has led to the arrest of a 38-year-old man allegedly connected to multiple thefts targeting businesses and public buildings.

According to the Winnipeg Police Service, the Major Crimes Unit began investigating in February 2026 after a series of incidents were reported across several neighborhoods, including Downtown, West End, and St. James areas. Investigators say the suspect allegedly carried out break-ins between January 12, 2026, and February 16, 2026, stealing cash and property totaling more than $30,000.

Police allege the incidents included multiple entries into commercial businesses along Colony Street, Portage Avenue, and Princess Street, as well as a government building on Hargrave Street where approximately $12,100 was reportedly stolen. Additional attempted break-ins and property damage incidents were also reported, including a failed entry on Granite Way and $5,000 in damages at a Sherbrooke Street business.

Authorities said many of the incidents were captured on surveillance cameras, which helped investigators identify a suspect.

On April 9, 2026, officers traveled to the Milner Ridge Correctional Centre in Beausejour, Manitoba, where they arrested Jeffrey Joel Gouldhawke, 38, in connection with the investigation.

According to police, Gouldhawke has been charged with multiple offenses, including break and enter, break and enter with intent, possession of break-in instruments, and mischief under $5,000. He remains in custody.

The investigation remains ongoing, and police have not indicated whether additional charges may be filed.
