CHICAGO – The Illinois High School Association (IHSA) announced Tuesday new guidelines for a return to winter sports as some Regions across Illinois move from Tier 1 into Phase 4.

Among the changes included in a vote by the IHSA Board Tuesday include a return to practice for Badminton, Bowling, Competitive Cheer, Competitive Dance, Girls Gymnastics, and Boys Swimming and Diving.

As a part of the Winter Sport Acclimatization, each of the sports will need to complete seven days of practice before playing in their first contest. The IHSA Board will meet again on January 27th and is expected to deliver additional information then.

IDPH currently has no Phase 4 guidance in place.

Other seasonal sports contact days are expected to begin January 25th, including Fall, Spring and Summer sports. The Illinois Department of Public Health is expected to deliver recommendation guidelines Wednesday for gathering limits.
