The Chicago White Sox announced in a statement early this morning two team players had tested positive for COVID-19. The testing was done as part of MLB’s return to play health protocols. Players, staff, and front office members all received testing.

The team reports both players are asymptomatic and have been isolated in Chicago.

“Both individuals who tested positive are asymptomatic, have been isolated in Chicago, and currently are being monitored by White Sox medical staff. Contact tracing for both was conducted. Both individuals will receive follow-up testing in the coming days. They will return to activities once they have recorded consecutive negative tests and passed appropriate COVID-19 protocols.” The White Sox said in a statement.

No names will be released by the team of which players tested positive.

“We cannot comment on the health status of individual players or employees regarding COVID-19, and the players involved requested privacy at this time related to their health situations.” The White Sox said Sunday.

The White Sox are set to begin play as part of a 60-game season on July 24th.
