Richmond, VA – Eleven people were killed in nine crashes on Virginia roads during the 2024 Memorial Day holiday weekend, marking an increase from nine fatalities in 2023.
According to the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles, the crashes occurred in Craig, Dinwiddie, Fairfax, Franklin, Goochland, and Henry counties, as well as Hampton and Lynchburg. Two double-fatality crashes were reported in Goochland and Henry counties. Virginia State Police reported 3,500 speeding citations, 1,400 reckless driving citations, 92 DUI arrests, and 303 hands-free phone violations.
