One of the festival’s highlights is the grand debut of a brand new exhibit commemorating the museum’s 75th anniversary at Governor Small Memorial Park. Visitors can explore this captivating display while marveling at the Kankakee Art League Show and a fascinating collection of vintage purses. Additionally, a special local hero display will pay tribute to the courageous individuals who have made significant contributions to the community.

The Let Freedom Ring Garden in the Circle Drive will feature a classic and old car display from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., providing a nostalgic journey through automotive history. At 10:30 a.m., Rolling Thunder Illinois Chapter 1 will present the moving Remembrance Table Ceremony, dedicated to POW/MIA military veterans. This ceremony serves as an introduction to the local hero display.
The Civic Auditorium Patio will host a thrilling pie-eating contest at 11:00 a.m., where participants will battle it out for the coveted title. The festivities continue with live musical performances by Shelby Ryan, Vince Amore, and the Kankakee Valley Symphony Orchestra, ensuring a memorable experience for all attendees.

Before becoming Governor, Lennington Small grew up in the Dr. Small Memorial Home, where his father, Dr. Abram Small, believed in the plant’s medicinal properties. The surrounding land of the Small family home was once abundant with rhubarb during the early to mid-1900s.
