Basement Fire in Naperville Displaces Residents, Causes $150,000 in Damages

NAPERVILLE, Ill. – A basement fire broke out in the 3400 block of Caine Drive in Naperville on Wednesday afternoon, prompting a swift response from the local fire department. 

According to fire officials is began just before 12:30 p.m. when a resident of a single-family home alerted Naperville’s Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) about smoke and activated smoke detectors in the basement. Two people inside managed to safely evacuate the building prior to the arrival of emergency crews.

Firefighters arriving on scene encountered heavy smoke coming from the basement. They promptly deployed hose lines and initiated a thorough search. Their efforts revealed that the fire had breached the subfloor, extending to the upper floors of the house. Additional handlines were swiftly deployed to contain secondary fires. 

It took crews about a half hour to get the blaze under control.  Naperville Fire Department received assistance from the Naperville Police, Naperville Electric, and Nicor during the operation. 

No injuries were reported in the incident that has since displaced four residents. Investigators say the fire caused $150,000 in damages to the building.

The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
