ELMHURST, IL – Two Elmhurst Police officers were honored for their life-saving actions during a courtroom emergency.

On Wednesday, the Elmhurst Police Department recognized Officers Ostrega and Elizalde for their swift response to a July incident when a 67-year-old man lost consciousness in a DuPage Field Courtroom.

The courtroom fell into chaos as the man’s breathing stopped, and his pulse faded away. Without hesitation, Officers Ostrega and Elizalde sprang into action, recognizing the dire cardiac emergency unfolding before them.

In a race against time, the duo administered chest compressions and deployed an automated external defibrillator (AED) on the stricken individual. A powerful shock revived the man, breathing life back into him. He was transported to a nearby hospital following the event.

The heartfelt ceremony saw the man’s children and grandchildren personally express their gratitude to Officers Ostrega and Elizalde. Tokens of appreciation, in the form of teddy bears, were gifted to these brave officers.
