Rensselaer, Indiana – A late-night collision between a semi-truck and a bus occurred late Thursday.
According to reports it happened near mile marker 222 on the northbound route, when disaster struck around 11 p.m., leaving one driver injured and a community searching for answers.
The force of the crash propelled the bus into a dense wooded area, trapping the driver inside and requiring a painstaking extraction operation. Shockingly, the semi-truck responsible for the collision vanished into the night, leaving a trail of unanswered questions in its wake.
The bus was devoid of students during the accident, averting a potential catastrophe. The Rensselaer Volunteer Fire Department swiftly responded to the scene, embarking on a grueling and multi-hour rescue operation that pushed their heroic efforts to the brink.
Reflecting on the ordeal, one exhausted firefighter shared, “This turned out to be one of the most challenging, time-consuming, and toughest vehicle rescues we have ever done.” The operation extended into the early hours, demanding an all-hands-on-deck approach from the brave responders.
Local law enforcement, including Porter and Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies, are now diligently working to track down the elusive semi-truck that fled the scene.
As of now, the condition of the bus driver remains unknown. Keener Township Fire Department lent invaluable assistance during the three-hour extraction ordeal.
